CAT SPAM!!!!!

Today I am just going to take this time to do my duty as an internet junkie to post a ton of cute, adorable, and just so gosh darn precious pictures of kittens. As if the internet wasn’t full of enough cat pictures… A few days ago I took my oldest and dearest friend on a surprise afternoon trip to the Cat Depot! For those of you who have never experienced the magical wonderland, that is the Cat Depot, it is basically a big warehouse filled to the brim with the cutest and cuddliest of the earth’s creatures, KITTENS! All of the cats live in little communities, they have a pudgy habitat for all the bigger boned felines, a whole area for elderly and calm cats, and not one but three whole rooms of baby kittens! Every cat has been checked, had their shots, and are ready for adoption! It was a truly puuuuurrrrrfect day. Ha ha, I’ll stop meow. Okay, I’m just let the pictures speak for themselves. But really, if you don’t feel the urge to reach out and pet your screen when viewing these amazing kitten pics, you’ve cat to be kitten me.

Sorry.. here they are.

If looking at these precious kittens has left you wanting more, head down to the Cat Depot! You can just go and play with them or really take the plunge by adopting one of these little guys! Just go to

A Spin On The Classics.

Today I got the chance to spend the day with my best friend. She is the kind of person who takes spontaneous road trips to North Carolina, spends her mornings doing flying yoga, and will try anything new if there is a Groupon for it. She is a beach bum, 5-star resort groupie, yoga guru, and most importantly my mom. Yeah, I know, of course I’m her biggest fan, she raised me, but she has done so much more than that. She is the reason I am the outgoing and adventurous person I am today, because well, that’s how she is. Monkey-see, monkey-do.

Anyway, Doo-nees, as we like to call her, is as curious as a kitten and a total social butterfly, so when we planned on spending the day together I knew I had an adventure in store. After contemplating all of our options for the day, I was surprised when we both decided on the plain old lunch and a movie. However, we did put a spin on that classic date night activity and went to lunch at the quirky Nancy’s BBQ, which is filled to capacity with a quite unusual crowd of hipsters and business professionals. Among the masses were me and my teeny tiny mom on a picnic table, sharing a juicy pulled pork sandwich and mac and cheese off of a large metal tray, it was a dream. After waddling out of Nancy’s, we headed over to Burns Court Cinema, a quaint theatre that only plays films from Sundance and low budget indies. When faced with our two options, we felt gutsy and went with a Danish foreign film. Although we were reading subtitles throughout the entire 2 hour film, and the two of us were still gasping, clenching our arm rests, and on the edge our seat the whole time, I think it was a good choice!

It’s days like today that make me thankful to have had the childhood I did. Because of my babe of a mom, I have the appreciation for all things adventure. Whether it’s doing yoga on a paddle board or going to a foreign film instead of a box office hit, she seems to make things a little more exciting. Here are just a few shots from today’s afternoon mommy daughter date.

An Explanation

After writing my first post last night I thought I should probably explain why I decided to name the blog Solo Tandem Ride. Well here’s the thing, ever since I was in middle school I have always had a boyfriend. Whether it was just a two week fling or a four year long committed relationship, I would always be jumping from guy to guy. After my breakup with the guy I assumed was “the one” (yeah, I know I’m only 20 but we were young and in love) , I decided that this period in my life would revolve around me.

I am now in a committed relationship with myself. And do you know what? It’s the most stable, trusting, loving relationship I have ever had. In just these few short months I have learned more about myself than I could have ever imagined! I am head over heels in love with myself.

Ha ha sorry okay, back to why I chose this name..

Biking is one of my all time favorite activities to do with friends and loved ones. And back in my sophomore year of high school I got the world’s best Christmas presents. A 1963 Schwinn tandem bicycle. At the time, I was dating my high school sweetheart and this bicycle soon became our lives. Really, we stopped driving our cars and began taking the tandem everywhere. We even took it to prom my junior year high heels, dress, tux, and all! We had it valeted! Life really was an adventure back then, it was good, clean, innocent fun! Needless to say sitting on the back of that bike became my obsession. However, all good things must come to an end and when me and my ex broke up it was also the end of the tandem.

But when one door closes another opens. I am now the proud owner of a beautiful purple bicycle and it’s even got a wicker basket and a bell! Riding my own bike has it’s own perks. I am no longer looking at the sweaty back of the person in front of me as I was on my tandem and best of all I can steer and go where ever I choose. It is a whole new freedom I never got to experience while on the back of that old bicycle. I can explore and see the world around me. Riding by myself and being single may have been the best things that have happened to me.

So here I am. On my solo ride and as a way of commemorating my first post, I went on a nice long bike ride and did all of the things I enjoy.

To start my trip off I went thrifting, one of my favorite things to do, because well I’m just so gosh darn good at it. Even if I don’t end up getting anything it’s still a thrill.

The usual stop at Sarasota Trading Company… too freaking bad the owner is jerk and definitely has a stick or small animal stuck up his butt.

Just walking inside the Selby Library today was the highlight of my day. The smell alone brought back so many memories of my childhood. Oh and hey, I got a library card!! I even checked out a book!

Burns Court is the bomb. That’s really all there is to say about that.

Needless to say, today I had the perfect day. Just me, myself, and I.

1.

I want to start this blog off right, so I feel as though I have to explain why on earth I want to write down and share everything on the world wide web. Well, to be honest, it’s not for anyone to really read, this one is just for me. I just want to document all of my amazing experiences as a 20 year old college student and maybe, just maybe, if you enjoy looking through my eyes as much as I do, this might be a blog you want to keep in your bookmarks. Not to brag or anything, but I think I live a pretty cool life. I definitely have had my ups and downs (a LOT of downs), but somehow I always look on the bright side of things. Through these twenty years on this earth I have learned quite a lot, however I still have a far way to go before I start actually learning from the mistakes I make on a daily basis. This is where this blog comes in. I wish for this to be a documentation of my accomplishments as well as my many mistakes. Hopefully in a year I can look back and have learned something along the way. So here it goes. I am going to make this officially official by ending my first post in a mission statement.

My mission: to live my life to the fullest, make mistakes, and learn from them. One day, one post, one word at a time.

Disclaimer: Don’t worry this won’t ALL be just be stories of my life (there is reality tv for boring stuff like that). I also want to inspire the creativity within myself and others through art and the beautiful world around us. I really do have an obsession with type and images, so look out.
